Why We Ring

Why We Ring: a portrait and documentary series about the Westhoughton Tower Bellringers by photographer Marge Bradshaw                                               

Saturday 18 November 2023 to Sunday 3 March 2024

This exhibition features new work by photographer Marge Bradshaw, made in collaboration with the Westhoughton Tower Bellringers in 2022 and 2023. Through portraiture and documentary photography, Bradshaw goes behind the scenes to explore the contemporary story of bellringing and reveal spaces never usually seen by the public.

One of the portraits from the Why We Ring series (Nathan, included here) has been shortlisted for Portrait of Britain, the prestigious annual portrait photography competition run by the British Journal of Photography. The 100 winners will be announced on 8 January 2024.
