Bolton, 1970s: Photographs by Don Tonge
Monday 17 May to Sunday 18 July 2021
This exhibition showcases never-before-seen images by noted local photographer, Don Tonge. When the first lockdown began in March 2020, Don began working through his huge archive of photographs spanning his 40-year career as a press and theatre photographer. For this exhibition, he has selected his favourite images from a single decade: the 1970s. His striking black and white photographs capture shoppers in flares and platform shoes, children roller skating, and football supporters at Burnden Park.

Don says - "Of all the photographs I’ve taken over the years, the ones that I took in the 1970s seem to resonate most strongly with people. That’s why we’ve chosen to focus on them in this exhibition."
