History Centre services and availability of archives

Unfortunately we are unable to provide access to all of our material at all times. Please plan ahead to avoid disappointment.


Availability of Archives and Reserve stock

  • To view material from the Archive Collections you must book them at least 24 hours in advance.
  • You can book by telephoning 01204 332161 or emailing archives@bolton.gov.uk.
  • Due to the nature of the material in the collection, some items may not be produced for conservation and preservation reasons.

Fees and charges

  • Copying within the Bolton History Centre
  • Photocopies (each): A4: £0.20 A3: £0.30
  • Microfilm/microfiche print copies (each): A4: £0.90 A3: £1.80
  • Black/White computer prints (each): A4: £0.10
  • Colour computer prints (each): A4: £0.40

Enquiries

  • Up to 20 minutes of research conducted free of charge.
  • Additional research charged at £17.50 per additional half hour, £35 per additional hour.
  • For all requests requiring photocopies or printouts to be returned by post there is a handling charge payable of £5 to mainland UK addresses or £10 for airmail. This includes 2 free A4 printouts, normal charges apply for additional items and may incur higher postal costs.
  • £5 research charge for scans sent digitally. This includes 2 scans. Extra scans cost £0.90 each.
  • Payment can be made by cash or card at the main desk in Bolton Central Library, or by card over the telephone on 01204 332853.
