Opening Hours for Libraries and Museums

Our libraries are currently open for Order and Collect and essential computer use only. The Museum, Aquarium and Historic Halls are currently closed.

  • You will be able to return items or pick up books via our Order and Collect Service. To make use of Order and Collect or to reserve items, telephone Bolton Libraries on 01204 332853.
  • You can pre-book a computer for essential use, such as job applications and Universal Credit by telephoning 01204 332853. Sessions will be limited to 45 minutes.

To keep everyone safe, visitor numbers and length of stay may be restricted at busy times to maintain maximum capacities.

Members of the public must wear a face covering in all Library and Museum spaces.

Hand sanitising stations will be available, a one-way system will aid social distancing while public toilets will be closed.

You will be asked to provide your contact details when entering to help with Test and Trace or check in using the NHS COVID-19 app.

Order and Collect

You can reserve any lending item for collection at any library via the catalogue and access a wide range of free eBooks, eAudio books and eMagazines: bolton.spydus.co.uk

If you don't have access to the library catalogue, please email libraries@bolton.gov.uk or call 01204 332853. A notification will be sent when the items are available to pick up. They will be held for two weeks and can be collected at any time during library opening hours. Opening hours vary, please check www.bolton.gov.uk/libraries for further details.

Home Library Service

If you are unable to get to a library, you can register for the Home Library Service. This is a free book delivery service which we have extended to anyone who is shielding or vulnerable during the pandemic. When you join you will be asked to give us an idea of what you like to read and whether you’d prefer standard, large print or recorded books. Once registered we will deliver up to six items which you can keep for two weeks.

For more information you can call Farnworth Library on 01204 332345 or email homelibraryservice@bolton.gov.uk

Test and Trace

In line with the UK Government Test and Trace programme, we have been asked to collect personal data about anyone who is spending a prolonged period of time in our buildings.

If you are browsing at the Central Library, using our computing facilities or visiting the Museum, we will need to take some information from you.

This is voluntary and will include your name, contact number and date/time you arrived and left the library.

We will only keep your data for 21 days and then it will be securely destroyed.

Your data will always be kept securely and only be saved on the secure Bolton IT network.

You can also check in to the building using the NHS Covid-19 app.
