Special Effects Model Making for Film and TV at The University of Bolton

Special Effects Model Making from the University of Bolton

Come to Bolton Museum Up Close gallery to see fantastic examples of Special Effects Model Making from the University of Bolton. Exhibition open until 12 May 2024

The University of Bolton’s Special Effects Model Making for Film and TV degree is a unique programme developed and taught by industry professionals, that explores a wide range of specialist skills for the creation of physical and digital effects for film and television.

From alien spaceships and automated robots to ancient statues, model and prop making is used to create physical artefacts to support the action, as well as provide a sense of place, time and atmosphere for actors and audiences to respond to.

Third year students were recently given a project and the brief was to create characters and props to help bring the new children’s library to life. Come along to the new library and you’ll see Paddington Bear, Aslan, the very hungry caterpillar, a great white shark and the Triwizard Cup!

This exhibition highlights a superb selection of student work creating movie magic and TV thrills!

We are continuing to strengthen the partnership with the university and have plans to work with the School of Art and future students.
